Meet me in Govan

Meet Me in Govan is a collaborative community initiative jointly led by Invisible Cities, part of the Invisible (Neighbourhoods), and Govan Community Project. At its core, this project revolves around a weekly walking group, aiming to unite individuals while fostering their well-being and promoting community development within an active and sociable environment.

Our journey began in the spring of 2022, culminating in our inaugural group walk on July 27, 2022. These walks are organised around six rotating themes: housing; work; culture; community; youth and education; immigration and languages; and sports and well-being. Every Thursday at 10:30 am, we assemble at the Pearce Institute's reception and embark on our exploratory journey. Our dedicated guide, Angie, leads the way, offering insights and information on each thematic focus. What sets our project apart is its inclusive nature, where participants are encouraged to actively contribute to the walks and engage in meaningful conversations. They are invited to share their own experiences, adding diverse personal narratives to the tapestry of Govan's history. The cyclical nature of our themes ensures that these personal stories become integral components of our 'living history' project. 'Meet Me in Govan' warmly welcomes not only Govanites but anyone intrigued by this remarkable area.

Our walks are a proud part of the Paths for All health walks network, which encourages community members to walk together in their local surroundings in an accessible manner. Participants not only forge new friendships but also gain valuable insights into the area, discover local organisations, businesses, and social enterprises that contribute to individual well-being and the broader society. Our walks cater to newcomers to Govan as well as long-time residents, providing essential information and fostering connections with local organisations. Beyond exploration, we actively engage in the Govan community's events and activities.
